Cairo giants Ahly, have announced that up to 50,000 of their supporters will be allowed to attend the CAF Champions League final against Wydad de Casablanca.
Ahly will host the Moroccan side at Cairo stadium on Sunday 4 June in the first leg of the continental competition final with the second leg will take place in Casablanca, one week later.
Initially, security forces in the country had permitted the presence of only 20,000 fans.
However, they later agreed on Wednesday to increase the number upon the request of the club and the intervention of Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi.
“50,000 supporters would be present at Cairo stadium,” Ahly vice-president El-Amry Farouk wrote on his official Facebook account on Wednesday.
“Thanks to club president Mahmoud El-Khatib and thanks to security officials in the country.”
Ahly are bidding for their 11th Champions League title, while their Moroccan opponents will be looking to defend the title, they won last year at the expense of the Red Devils.
