Health Officials: 4th COVID-19 Wave Could Start This Weekend

On Sunday, Mohamed El Nady, the head of the scientific committee for combating COVID-19 in Egypt, said that the climax fourth wave of COVID-19 in the state may start this weekend.

He asserted that there is a rise in the number of COVID-19 infections and this number is not concerning. However, all residents should follow the required medical procedures.

El Nady continued that this wave carries different numbers of infections, and deaths linked to the Coronavirus, adding, that the rates of deaths are decreasing due to the vaccination rollout.

Finally, he revealed that the booster shot of vaccine will be given to medical staff members, the elder, and people who had medical issues, in addition, people who were fully vaccinated a year ago could have an extra vaccine shot.

On Friday, Egypt reported 869 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country’s total up to 316711, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Health.

Moreover, the statement added that 38 new deaths were recorded, increasing the number of deaths to 17884.

It is worthy to mention that Egypt recorded  865 new infections and 40 new deaths on Thursday. Egypt is currently working on speeding its vaccination rollout, in addition to including more categories in the campaign such as university students. In addition, the authorities will open the doors for vaccinating school students.

Moreover, the country is still receiving huge vaccine shipments from various companies such AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Sinovac, Sinopharm, and Sputnik V.

The country has localized the manufacturing of the Chinese Sinovac; it plans to manufacture Moderna and Sptunik V.
