Unknown armed assailants set up an ambush for a vehicle carrying officials from the Customs Department in northwest Pakistan on Thursday evening, killing four of them before fleeing the scene, according to the Associated Press.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred in the Dera Ismail Khan district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan, said local police official Naseer Khan.

The motive behind the attack has yet to be determined.

Khan stated that the police have transported the bodies of the deceased officials to the hospital, and investigations are ongoing.
