4 Killed in Bangkok Food Market Shooting

A deadly shooting at a popular food market in Bangkok left four security guards dead and one person injured on Monday, according to Thai police.

The incident occurred at the Or Tor Kor market near the busy Chatuchak area, which is frequently crowded, especially on weekends. Police say the gunman opened fire before taking his own life.

Deputy Chief of Bang Sue Police, Worapat Sookthai, confirmed the fatalities and stated that the motive is still under investigation. Authorities are working to identify the shooter and determine whether there is any link between the attack and ongoing border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia.

Thailand has seen some gun-related incidents in recent years, largely due to relatively easy access to firearms across the country. While mass shootings are not a daily occurrence, they are not uncommon in Thailand’s urban centers.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched a full investigation into the background and potential motivations of the suspect.
