Police and residents confirmed that gunmen killed four individuals, including two policemen, and kidnapped at least 40 others in an attack on the town of Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, on Tuesday.

The police spokesperson for the state, Yazid Abu Bakr, acknowledged the attack and mentioned that reinforcements had been deployed to the Kasuwar Daji area of the town where the incident occurred.

Residents reported that the incident began with an assault on the town's police station. "They kidnapped more than 40 women and children and some elderly men," said Hussaini Mohammed, a local.

Hamisu Kasuwa Daji, head of the town's transport union, disclosed that his son and two grandchildren were among those abducted.

"My house is next to the police station. The bandits started by attacking the police station and continued for several minutes, killing two policemen and two other civilians... Then they came to my house... They took my son and two of my grandchildren," he explained.
