Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Sunday the arrest of 33 people in Sakarya Governorate, northwest of the country over suspicion of their connection to the terrorist organization ISIS.

Yerlikaya said - according to the Turkish channel "A News" in its English-language bulletin - that the suspects were arrested in simultaneous operations in the "Sakarya" province.

The Turkish Minister of the Interior added: “The suspects are involved in preparing for operations before the local elections, searching for recruits and individuals for conflict areas, providing financial support to the organization as part of financing terrorism, and engaging in activities such as building a mosque and a school illegally.”

It is noteworthy that in 2013, Turkey became one of the first countries to declare ISIS a terrorist organization.
