Africa continent is a rich, vibrant, perse region, welcoming millions of international tourists each year. It encompasses 54 countries and nearly 20%% of the Earth’s total land area. There’s so much to figure out in the continent and if you’re planning to visit for the first time, the massive amount of information can actually be overwhelming.

Fortuitously, Sada Elbald English (SEE) has done most of the research for you and narrowed down a list of some of the best places to visit in Africa, to make your trip planning easier. Here are the 3 top places to visit in the stunning continent this year…

Pyramids, Egypt

Giza Pyramids site is an Egyptian national landmark and made it to the top finalists in the competition of the 7 new wonders of the world. Yap, the Egyptians are pretty proud of it!

These iconic edifices are now housing tombs of the pharaohs who commissioned them, which gives people a lot of indication about their connection to the afterlife.

Yet egyptologists and antique experts still aren’t entirely sure how they were built, and for what exact reason.

However, historians and archaeologists continue with their theories and the mystery certainly adds a sense of romance to the Egyptian Pyramids tales.

The world's most exciting memorials, Egypt's three Pyramids remind that you're in Great Africa. In the heart of the old city of Giza, henna-painters, storytellers, souvenirs-sellers, and handi-made antique vendors set up their stalls during the day.

It's located on the west bank of the River Nile, you’ll be just over 10 miles away from Cairo. So you’ll be conveniently located if you are staying in a hotel in the city of Cairo and you’re looking for a day trip tour that is easily accessible.

Cairo and Giza are in the Northern region of Egypt, just a few hours away from Cairo airport, so you will be ideally placed for African travel to the Uganda national parks and Victoria falls if you want to combine your destinations.

Near the Giza Pyramids, you can find the Great Sphinx by the Chephren one, the head of a pharaoh with a lion’s body dates from the time of Chephren.

Moreover, you can proceed to visit the Valley Temple which belongs to the Pyramids of Chephren.

According to Egyptologists, this ancient temple served definitely two functions: First, it was used for the purification of the mummy of the king before its burial. Second, it was used for making the Mummification process of the king.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the largest national park in Uganda, is one of the most unusual in Africa continent, with a plateau cut by numerous rivers like Ivi, Munyaga, Ihihizo, Ishasha, and Ntengyere rivers that reach Lake Edward and Albertine Rift Valley by way of waterfalls off the eastern edge of the mountains.

The eastern border of the plateau forms the wall of the Great Rift Valley. The great domes of hills have gentle slopes, making Bwindi perfect for both trekking and mountain biking as well as land cruisers exploration.

Antelope and zebra abound, and the park has one of the highest densities of gorillas in Central Africa.

It also features a rich fauna including a number of endemic butterflies and one of the richest mammalian assemblages in Africa.

Victoria Falls, Zambia and Zimbabwe

Reaching Victoria Falls, also known as "The Cloud That Thunders" has become a major travel goal for adventure-seekers across the two spheres.

The Victoria Falls takes around 2 days and is an amazing experience – not only because of the stunning scenery and unique ecosystems, but also because it allows you the opportunity to learn about the various African cultures.

You will struggle, you will sweat, you will ache, but the fascinating falls trek is actually worth it.

While it’s a real physical challenge (even for the most experienced trekkers) and the weather isn’t always ideal, the sense of achievement you’ll feel at the end makes it all worthwhile.

Literally, the Victoria Falls site features a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur on the Zambezi River, forming the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

But while Zimbabwe certainly has more viewpoints, tourists really enjoy the wilder feel of the Zambian side, where the slightly cheaper Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park (US$20 per person) gets you right up close to rushing water.

Also, you can find a quiet spot above the falls to sit for a while and walk across the Knife-Edge Bridge. If the Zambezi river is in full flood prepare to get thoroughly soaked as the spray seems to come at you from all directions.
