A young man driving a truck struck a group of women jogging in a city in western Germany on Saturday, resulting in injuries to three women, according to a police spokesperson.

The incident involved a 19-year-old male driver who collided with the group head-on, leaving one of the injured women in critical condition.

The three injured women, aged 45, 46, and 70, were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Emergency services, including a helicopter and fire trucks, rushed to the scene to provide aid.

The police spokesperson mentioned that the other five women in the group were unharmed but were in shock and receiving care.

The truck driver was uninjured, although the truck's windshield sustained significant damage. The vehicle has been impounded for further investigation.

Authorities currently believe the incident was an accident.

The driver veered off the road in a rural area while navigating a right-hand curve to the left for reasons still unknown.

It remains unclear whether the driver was speeding at the time of the crash.
