Armed militias operating in the North Kivu and Ituri provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) have carried out attacks resulting in the deaths of at least 21 civilians.

According to local reports, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an armed group affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS, launched an attack on the village of Mambelenga in the Oromia region of Ituri province last night, resulting in the deaths of at least 6 people.

Human rights activists have reported that members of the "Allied Democratic Forces" militias have begun to regroup and commit new massacres against civilians following a joint operation by the DR Congo Armed Forces and Ugandan army forces against them several months ago.

These activists have indicated that the militants attacked the village, resulting in the deaths of the six individuals and the setting of fire to a house that housed three people.

In the same context, the Civil Society Coordination in the North Kivu province of the DR Congo reported that militants from the "23 March" rebel movement killed at least 15 civilians in three villages in the Nerajongo province a few days ago, adding that the victims were civilians.

Mambo Kawaya, the head of the Civil Society Coordination in Nerajongo province, reported that in addition to these victims, citizens have reported the discovery of a mass grave containing 25 decomposed bodies of civilians in the Virunga Park in the North Kivu province.
