Switzerland secured top spot in Group B and booked their place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Canada 2-1 on Wednesday at BC Place in Vancouver.
The Swiss side finished first in the group with seven points, while Canada also advanced after ending the group stage level on points with Bosnia and Herzegovina but ahead on goal difference.
The first half was evenly contested, with both teams sharing possession and chances without either side gaining a clear upper hand.
Switzerland broke the deadlock just after the restart when Ruben Vargas scored in the 46th minute to put his side in front.
The Swiss doubled their lead in the 57th minute through Johan Manzambi, giving Murat Yakin’s side full control of the match.
Canada pulled one back in the 75th minute through Promise Akinpelu, but Switzerland held firm to secure all three points and confirm their place in the knockout stage.
