Day 6 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup delivered another headline-heavy set of matches, with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Erling Haaland all scoring as Argentina, France, and Norway opened their campaigns with dominant wins.

It was one of the most star-studded days of the tournament so far.

France beat Senegal 3–1 in a tense Group I clash that only opened up in the second half.

Kylian Mbappé broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, later adding another goal in stoppage time, while Bradley Barcola also scored.

Mbappé’s performance saw him become France’s all-time leading goal scorer, underlining his growing legacy on the international stage.

Norway also impressed with a 4–1 win over Iraq, led by a clinical brace from Erling Haaland.

He scored twice in the first half as Norway marked their return to the World Cup with a strong statement victory, continuing his reputation as one of the most lethal forwards in the world.

The biggest moment of the day came in Argentina’s 3–0 win over Algeria, where Lionel Messi scored a historic hat-trick.

His goals in the 17th, 60th, and 76th minutes secured Argentina’s opening win and saw him reach multiple milestones, including becoming the first player to appear in six World Cups and moving further up the all-time World Cup scoring charts.

Elsewhere, Austria beat Jordan 3–1 in a match full of VAR decisions, a Jordan equaliser, and late drama, including a stoppage-time penalty to seal the result.

Jordan also celebrated their first-ever World Cup goal during the match, marking a historic moment despite the defeat.
