Kylian Mbappe continued to rewrite the record books after guiding France to a 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, sending Les Bleus into the quarter-finals while achieving a series of remarkable personal and team milestones.
Mbappe converted the match-winning penalty to secure France's place in the last eight, taking his tally to 55 goals in all competitions this season, the highest-scoring campaign of his career.
The Real Madrid star also reached 100 direct goal contributions for the French national team, having registered 63 goals and 37 assists.
The victory saw France become just the fourth nation to score 150 goals in FIFA World Cup history, joining Brazil (246), Germany (243), and Argentina (163).
It also marked France's fourth consecutive appearance in the World Cup quarter-finals and extended their remarkable run to eight straight victories in Round of 16 matches, with their last defeat at this stage dating back to 1934 against Austria.
France head coach Didier Deschamps also made history by becoming the first manager to record 10 knockout-stage victories at the FIFA World Cup.
The Paraguay match was his 24th World Cup game in charge of France, leaving him just one match away from equaling Helmut Schön's all-time record for the most matches managed in World Cup history.
France will now face Morocco in the quarter-finals after the Atlas Lions secured an impressive 3-0 victory over Canada.
