Colombia secured their place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ghana in their Round of 32 clash.

The only goal of the match came in the 14th minute, when Jhon Arias found the back of the net to send Colombia into the knockout stage, where they will face Switzerland.

Colombia controlled much of the contest, relying on a disciplined defensive display and efficient attacking play to preserve their early advantage against a determined Ghanaian side.

Ghana entered the match hoping to continue its impressive World Cup run after advancing from the group stage as one of the best third-placed teams. The Black Stars had opened their campaign with a draw against England, defeated Panama, and concluded the group stage with a defeat to Croatia.

Colombia, meanwhile, arrived in the Round of 32 full of confidence after topping their group, which included Portugal, DR Congo, and Uzbekistan. The South American side recorded victories over DR Congo and Uzbekistan before drawing with Portugal to finish first in the standings.

Led by stars such as Luis Díaz and James Rodríguez, Colombia once again demonstrated their quality, with Arias' early strike proving enough to book a place in the Round of 16.

Colombia will now take on Switzerland in the Round of 16 as they continue their quest for a deep run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
