Switzerland booked their place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing a 2-0 victory over Algeria in their Round of 32 clash.

The Swiss made a bright start and took the lead in the 10th minute. Johan Manzambi threaded a perfectly weighted through ball to Breel Embolo, who calmly rounded the advancing goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the net.

Algeria nearly opened the scoring earlier through Houssem Aouar, whose effort narrowly missed the target in the sixth minute. Switzerland responded quickly, but goalkeeper Anthony Mandrea produced an excellent save to deny Denis Zakaria.

The Desert Warriors continued to push for an equalizer before halftime, with Gregor Kobel making crucial saves to keep out efforts from Aouar, while Ibrahim Maza also came close.

Riyad Mahrez thought he had a dangerous opportunity in stoppage time, but the move was halted for offside.

Switzerland doubled their advantage just seconds into the second half. Dan Ndoye capitalized on poor Algerian defending and fired a powerful strike from outside the penalty area into the net in the 46th minute, effectively putting the match beyond Algeria's reach.

The Swiss comfortably saw out the remainder of the contest to secure a deserved victory and advance to the Round of 16, where they will continue their quest for a deep run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
