Day 10 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup delivered a mix of dominant performances, dramatic finishes, and historic milestones, as several teams strengthened their push toward the knockout stages.

The day began with the Netherlands producing a commanding display against Sweden, underlining their status as one of the tournament favourites.

Cody Gakpo and Brian Brobbey each scored twice as the Dutch secured a convincing 5-1 victory.

The result puts the Netherlands on the brink of qualification for the Round of 32, while also sending a strong warning to the rest of the competition after they bounced back from an earlier draw against Japan.

Germany also made headlines with a crucial 2-1 win over Côte d’Ivoire, securing their place in the knockout rounds for the first time since 2014.

The victory ended a difficult run for the four-time champions, who had suffered consecutive group-stage exits in 2018 and 2022.

Substitute Deniz Undav proved decisive, scoring twice including a stoppage-time winner to complete a dramatic comeback.

Elsewhere, one of the biggest surprises of the tournament came as Curaçao held Ecuador to a goalless draw.

The result earned Curaçao their first-ever World Cup point and marked a historic achievement for the small Caribbean nation, which has a population of just 160,000.

Goalkeeper Eloy Room was the standout performer, producing a record-breaking 15 saves to frustrate Ecuador throughout the match.

Japan also continued their impressive campaign with a dominant 4-0 win over Tunisia. Ayase Ueda scored twice, while Daichi Kamada and Junya Ito added further goals as the Asian side moved level on points with the Netherlands at the top of Group F.

The defeat confirmed Tunisia’s elimination from the tournament after two heavy losses.

With the group stage reaching a decisive phase, several teams are now closing in on qualification, while others face mounting pressure to avoid early exits in a World Cup already filled with surprises and standout performances.
