Manchester City were held to a dramatic 1–1 draw by Chelsea on Sunday night at the Etihad Stadium, in a Matchday 20 clash of the 2025–2026 English Premier League season.

City took the lead late in the first half when Tijjani Reijnders found the net in the 42nd minute, capping off a strong spell of pressure from the hosts.

Pep Guardiola’s side appeared on course for all three points after controlling much of the contest, but Chelsea snatched a share of the spoils in stoppage time.

In the 94th minute, Enzo Fernández struck a crucial equalizer for the Blues, silencing the Etihad crowd and securing a valuable point for the visitors in dramatic fashion.

The match came just days after Chelsea officially announced the departure of Italian head coach Enzo Maresca following a run of disappointing results.

The team was led on Sunday by Calum McFarlane, head coach of Chelsea’s Under-21 side, who took temporary charge for the encounter.

Following the draw, Manchester City moved up to second place in the Premier League table with 42 points from 20 matches, recording 13 wins, four defeats, and three draws. City have scored 44 goals while conceding 18.

The result extended the gap between City and league leaders Arsenal to four points, with the Gunners sitting top on 46 points.

Chelsea, meanwhile, raised their tally to 31 points and sit fifth in the standings, having won eight matches, drawn seven, and lost five.

The Blues have scored 33 goals and conceded 22 so far this season.

The draw leaves both sides with mixed feelings, as City missed the chance to close the gap at the top, while Chelsea showed resilience amid a turbulent period off the pitch.
