Al Ahly strengthened their position at the top of their CAF Champions League group after a 2-0 victory against Tanzania’s Young Africans at Borg El Arab Stadium on Friday, in the third round of the 2025-2026 group stage.
The Egyptian side dominated possession early on, though Young Africans had several dangerous attempts, including a powerful shot from Alan Onkel in the 15th minute and another strike in the 24th minute that was expertly blocked by Al Ahly’s defense.
Al Ahly broke the deadlock in stoppage time of the first half (45+3) when Mohamed Hany delivered a precise cross that Mahmoud Hassan “Trézéguet” converted with a header, giving the home side a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw continued pressure from Al Ahly, and in the 75th minute, Trézéguet doubled the lead after a clinical finish inside the box, marking his fifth goal in this season’s Champions League.
Young Africans came close to scoring in the 77th minute, but goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir made a remarkable save.
Al Ahly narrowly missed a third goal in the 78th minute when Zizo’s assist to Gradishar was deflected wide.
With the win, Al Ahly lead their group with 7 points from two wins and a draw, while Young Africans sit second with 4 points.
Trézéguet’s performance continues to shine as he maintains his status among the top scorers in this year’s Champions League, giving Al Ahly momentum heading into the next round.
