The Iraq national team defeated the Bahraini counterpart 2–1 in the match that took place on Wednesday evening, as part of the first round of Group D in the 2025 Arab Cup held in Qatar, which continues until December 18.
The Iraqi team compete in Group D alongside Algeria, Sudan, and Bahrain, in a tournament expected to witness strong competition among the participating Arab national teams.
Ayman Hussein scored the first goal for the Lions of Mesopotamia, before Muhannad Ali “Mimi” added the second, putting Iraq firmly on the path to victory in its opening match of the tournament.
Sayed Isa reduced the deficit in the 80th minute of the match.
With this result, Iraq top the group with 3 points, ahead of Algeria and Sudan, who each have one point, while Bahrain sits at the bottom after the first round.
