Tunisia are set to contest one of the most decisive matches of their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign, as they take on Mali in the round of 16 of the tournament currently being held in Morocco.

The highly anticipated fixture will take place tonight at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.

Tunisia will be aiming to break a long-standing jinx against Mali in AFCON finals, in a match that also features a special club rivalry between Al Ahly teammates: Tunisia’s Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane and Mali’s Aliou Dieng.

Historically, the North African side has failed to catch a single victory against Mali in four previous AFCON meetings, all of which came in the group stage.

Those encounters ended in two defeats and two draws, making this clash a stern psychological and tactical test.

Saturday’s showdown also marks the first-ever knockout-stage meeting between the two teams, adding further weight to its significance.

Tunisia secured qualification for the knockout rounds after collecting four points to finish second in Group C, behind group winners Nigeria.

Mali, meanwhile, advanced from Group A in second place behind hosts Morocco, despite accumulating just three points.
