Nigeria booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique on Monday night, in a Round of 16 clash played at the Sports Complex Stadium in Fes.
The Super Eagles imposed their authority from the opening minutes and translated early dominance into goals.
Ademola Lookman broke the deadlock in the 20th minute before Victor Osimhen doubled the lead five minutes later, sending Nigeria into the break with a comfortable two-goal advantage.
Nigeria maintained the tempo after halftime, with Osimhen striking again in the 47th minute to effectively end the contest.
Substitute Akor Adams completed the rout in the 75th minute, capping a polished team performance.
Notably, Lookman provided assists for both second-half goals, underlining his influence on the match.
Lookman was the standout performer on the night, continuing his impressive AFCON 2025 campaign.
The winger has now registered seven goal contributions in three matches, scoring three times and providing four assists, making him the tournament’s most productive player so far.
Victor Osimhen also etched his name further into Nigeria’s football history.
His brace took his international tally to 34 goals, moving him within three goals of Rashidi Yekini’s long-standing national record of 37.
Nigeria now turn their attention to the quarter-finals as they chase a fourth continental crown, their first since 2013.
The three-time champions (1980, 1994, 2013), who also finished runners-up five times, most recently in 2023, appear to be gathering momentum at the perfect stage of the tournament.
