Nigeria secured a place in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after a convincing 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday evening at the Marrakech Stadium, in the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFCON currently being held in Morocco.

The Super Eagles delivered a composed and dominant performance, particularly in the first half, where they controlled possession and created several scoring opportunities.

Algeria were forced into a largely defensive role, with defender Rami Bensebaini making a crucial goal-line clearance in the 29th minute to keep his side in the contest.

Nigeria broke the deadlock early in the second half when star striker Victor Osimhen opened the scoring in the 47th minute with a powerful header.

The goal shifted momentum firmly in Nigeria’s favor.

Just ten minutes later, the Super Eagles doubled their advantage through Akor Adams.

The forward capitalized on a well-timed assist from Osimhen, broke through on goal, rounded Algerian goalkeeper Luca Zidane, and calmly slotted the ball into the net to seal the win.

With the victory, Nigeria booked a highly anticipated semi-final showdown against hosts Morocco, who advanced after defeating Cameroon 2–0.

The semi-final encounter is scheduled for next Wednesday.
