Morocco booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Tanzania on Sunday night at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium, in the Round of 16 of the AFCON 2025 currently being held in Morocco.

The Atlas Lions dominated proceedings from the opening whistle and created several chances in the first half.

Ismail Saibari thought he had given Morocco the lead, but his effort was ruled out for offside, leaving the score level at the break despite sustained pressure.

Morocco’s persistence finally paid off in the second half. In the 64th minute, Real Madrid star Ibrahim Díaz produced a moment of brilliance, scoring a superb goal that proved decisive and sent the home crowd into celebration.

The strike secured Morocco’s passage to the last eight and underlined their status as one of the tournament favorites.

With this result, Morocco will now face the winner of the Round of 16 clash between Cameroon and South Africa, scheduled for later on Sunday, in the quarterfinal stage.

Coached by Walid Regragui, Morocco entered the knockout stages with confidence after topping Group A with seven points.

They opened their campaign with a 2–0 win over Comoros, followed by a 1–1 draw against Mali, before closing the group stage with an emphatic 3–0 victory over Zambia.

The Atlas Lions will now turn their focus to the quarterfinals as they continue their quest for continental glory on home soil.
