Zambia secured a late equalizer to hold Mali to a 1–1 draw on Monday evening in Casablanca, in the opening round of the group stage at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, currently taking place in Morocco.

The first half saw Mali miss a golden opportunity to take the lead after Bilal Touré failed to convert a penalty kick in the 42nd minute.

Both teams continued to push in the second half, and Mali finally broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when Lassine Sinayoko capitalized on a defensive mistake by Zambia to score the opening goal.

However, deep into stoppage time, Patson Daka struck in the 92nd minute to earn Zambia a crucial equalizer, ending the match 1–1.

Mali midfielder Aliou Dieng, who plays for Al Ahly, featured for the full 90 minutes and received a yellow card during the match.

Mali and Zambia were drawn into Group A alongside hosts Morocco and Comoros. With this result, both teams collected one point each.

Morocco top the group with three points, while Comoros sit at the bottom without a point.
