Despite being labeled one of the strongest groups in the competition, Group F proved to be the lowest-scoring after the opening round, producing just two goals.
On the other hand, Ivory Coast edged Mozambique 1–0, while Cameroon recorded an identical victory over Gabon, setting up a decisive showdown for early control of the group.
Both Ivory Coast and Cameroon headed into the game on the back of narrow opening wins, intensifying the battle for top spot and placing added importance on securing qualification early to ease pressure ahead of the final group match.
As defending champions, Ivory Coast are aiming to reaffirm their continental dominance, while Cameroon are seeking to restore their traditional African pedigree and impose themselves from the early stages of the tournament.
