Egypt’s national team will face Benin in the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Benin officially secured qualification as one of the best third-placed teams, despite suffering a 3-0 defeat to group leaders Senegal.
Benin’s progression was confirmed following Senegal’s victory on Tuesday evening in Group D.
Abdallah Sék opened the scoring in the 38th minute, Habib Diallo added a second in the 62nd minute, and Ndiaye sealed the win from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time at 90 plus 7.
The result ensured Senegal finished top of the group and sent Benin through to the knockout stage.
The round of 16 clash between Egypt and Benin is scheduled to take place on Monday, January 5, at Adrar Stadium in the Moroccan city of Agadir.
