The Egyptian national team will take on Senegal next Wednesday in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, currently being held in Morocco, after edging past Ivory Coast with a thrilling 3–2 victory in the quarter-finals.

The highly anticipated clash between Egypt and Senegal is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Cairo time at the Ibn Battouta Stadium in the Moroccan city of Tangier.

Egypt booked their place in the last four following an impressive performance against Ivory Coast at the Adrar Stadium.

Goals from Omar Marmoush, Rami Rabia and Mohamed Salah secured the win, as the Pharaohs showed resilience and attacking quality to overcome the Elephants.

Omar Marmoush opened the scoring early in the fourth minute, before Rami Rabia doubled Egypt’s lead with a powerful header in the 32nd minute.

Ivory Coast pulled one back in the 40th minute following an own goal by Ahmed Fattouh, sending Egypt into halftime with a 2–1 advantage.

Early in the second half, Mohamed Salah extended Egypt’s lead in the 52nd minute after a perfectly weighted assist from Emam Ashour, placing the ball past the Ivorian goalkeeper.

Ivory Coast scored their second goal in the 73rd minute through Diomandé from a corner kick, but Egypt held firm to seal qualification.

Salah, who was named Man of the Match, expressed his delight after the game, stressing that Egypt deserved the victory.

The Liverpool star said he and his teammates would continue to fight and give their maximum effort in every match to reach the furthest possible stage in the tournament.

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan made several tactical substitutions late in the game to secure the result, including introducing Mahmoud Trezeguet and Mostafa Mohamed, while maintaining a solid defensive shape in the closing minutes.

With confidence high and key players in strong form, Egypt now prepare for a tough semi-final test against reigning African champions Senegal, as they continue their quest for continental glory at AFCON 2025.
