Moments ago, Egypt's Sarah Samir, who won the silver medal in weightlifting 81 kg in 2024 Paris Games, and the bronze medal in 2016 Rio Games, and Ahmed El Gendy, who won the gold medal in Modern Pentathlon at 2024 Paris Games, and the silver medal in 2020 Tokyo Games, carried the Egyptian flag in the closing ceremony of the games.
Both athletes also carried the Egyptian flag in the opening ceremony.
Samir captured the silver medal in the women’s 81 kg weightlifting event, after lifting a total of 268 kg in the snatch and clean and jerk.
She lifted 151kg in the clean and jerk, breaking the Olympic record before it was broken again by the first-place winner, the Norwegian Solfrid Elia Amna Kwanda.
Later on, Egypt's Ahmed El Gendy won the first gold medal for Egypt after winning the first place in the Modern Pentathlon at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The 24 year-old set a new Olympic world record with his score of 1,555 points.
The previous Olympic record was also set by him, with his score of 1,516 points in the semi-finals immediately prior.
