Saturday, August 10, could be one of the most successful days for Arabs in 2024 Paris Olympics. Arabs earned the biggest number of medals in various divisions.
Egypt
On Saturday, Egypt succeeded in improving its stands on the medal table from 80 to 50 after Sarah Samir captured the silver medal in the women’s 81 kg weightlifting event, after lifting a total of 268 kg in the snatch and clean and jerk.
Sarah lifted 151kg in the clean and jerk, breaking the Olympic record before it was broken again by the first-place winner, the Norwegian Solfrid Elia Amna Kwanda.
Later on, Egypt's Ahmed El Gendy won the first gold medal for Egypt after winning the first place in the Modern Pentathlon at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The 24 year-old set a new Olympic world record with his score of 1,555 points.
The previous Olympic record was also set by him, with his score of 1,516 points in the semi-finals immediately prior.
Algeria
Djamel Sedjati won a bronze medal in the 800m final in Paris.
Qatar
Mutaz Barsham won the bronze in the men's high jump to bid farewell to his Olympic career that witnessed the gaining of 1 gold in Tokyo, and 2 silver in Rio.
Bahrain
Gor Minasyan won the bronze medal in weightlifting - over 102 kg division after lifting 461 kg.
Minasyan snatched 216 kg and lifted 245 kg in the clean & jerk. he failed to lift 220 kg in the snatch or 255 kg in the final two clean & jerk attempts.
Akhmed Tazhudinov secured a medal for Bahrain after reaching the final of the Men's Freestyle Wrestling - 97 kgs.
