On Friday, Sweden's surprises in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup (FIFAWWC) have no end as they knocked former champions, Japan, out of the tournament.

The Swedish ladies stunned the Japanese 2-1 in the quarter-finals. After that match, the Japanese players fell to the ground in tears.

This means that a new champion will be crowned in this tournament after the exit of the US, Germany, and Japan.

Amanda Ilestedt scored the first goal for Sweden in the first half, and Filippa Angeldal successfully scored a penalty in the second half.

This win drove Sweden to their fifth appearance at the semi-fianls in the tournament.

In 79,  Japan's Riko Ueki earned a penalty kick but she missed hitting it. However, in the 86, Honoka Hayashi managed to narrow Sweden's lead to 2-1.
