On Tuesday, the Philippines captured their first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup victory after stunning the Co-Hosts, New Zealand, 1-0.
California-born Sarina Bolden hit the nets of New Zealand in 24:00.
Bolden’s goal was also the country’s first-ever goal in the history of the competition.
During the second half, the Co-Hosts tried to get back to the game once against when Jacqui Hand scored the equalizer for her country, but it was later ruled out by the VAR as an off-side.
Bolden said after the game:“I literally can’t put it into words,” adding: “This has been a dream of mine as a little kid to just be here at the World Cup, let alone even score.
“I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, the staff, the fans, the Philippines as a whole. It’s just amazing right now to feel this win and this energy in this stadium right now, so it’s just amazing.”
