A deadly roadside bomb detonated on a bridge in northwest Pakistan's Mardan district on Friday, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals and injuring eight others, according to local officials.
The explosion occurred when the bomb targeted a rickshaw, as reported by police official Sabir Khan.
Those injured were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where two remain in critical condition.
The incident drew immediate condemnation from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and other government figures.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, similar incidents in the past have been attributed to Islamic militants, including factions of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The TTP, closely aligned with the Afghan Taliban, has been active and emboldened since the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021.
Many TTP leaders and members have reportedly found refuge across the border in Afghanistan.
Pakistan has also faced threats from the Islamic State group and breakaway factions of the TTP, despite the latter claiming to primarily target security forces.
