1st Day of 1st Round of Parliamentary Elections Ends

Ballot boxes were sealed at 21:00 CLT Saturday on the first day of the first round of the House of Representatives' elections.

Supervising judges sealed the ballot boxes and locked up the doors where the boxes are stored.

A spokesman for the Local Development Ministry Khalid Qassim said no violations have been reported so far in the parliamentary elections.

The electoral process is going on smoothly and cooperation is underway among all the bodies concerned to overcome all obstacles facing voters, Qassim pointed out.

The ministry has prepared alternative energy sources to deal with any possible power outage during the electoral process, he added.

The first round of House elections covers the 14 governorates of Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, El Wadi El Gedid, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea, Alexandria, Beheira, and Marsa Matrouh.

Some 33 million voters are eligible to cast their votes in the first round.

Candidates are competing to fill 568 seats in the House of Representatives elections, while another 28 seats (5%) will be appointed by the president, bringing the chamber seats to a total of 596.

Today's Highlight

A female voter said Saturday that she cast her vote so that her voice could be heard in the upcoming House of Representatives 2020, noting that her voice went for candidate Mohamed Abou El Enein, who is running for Giza constituency.

She is not interested in politics, but she preferred to take part in the elections to be satisfied, according to her.

Earlier today, MP Abou El Enein called on the Egyptians to partake in the elections to shape Egypt’s present and future in the coming five years, stressing that it is a national and imperative duty to support Egypt and its leader for further progress and prosperity.
