18 people lost their lives, and 21 others were injured when a truck veered off the road and plunged into a ravine in southwestern Congo.

The Congolese police confirmed the tragic accident.

According to Benjamin Banza, the police commander of the Kasangulu region, the truck was traveling at high speed on a major highway in the remote Kasangulu province of central Congo

The vehicle was heavily loaded with goods and carrying numerous passengers when the driver lost control, leading to a catastrophic plunge into the ravine.

Banza further reported that six of the injured individuals are in critical condition, emphasizing that the truck sustained extensive damage and has not yet been recovered.

It is worth noting that excessive speeding is a common cause of accidents on major roads in Congo, where traffic rules are often not adhered to, contributing to such tragic incidents.
