A massive explosion at an explosives plant in Tennessee has killed 16 people, authorities said, a new death toll lower than the initial estimate after two missing people were found dead.
The explosion occurred Friday in the town of Bucksnord at a plant owned by Accurate Energetic Systems, a company that manufactures explosives for military and demolition purposes.
The blast destroyed an entire building in the large factory complex and caused tremors felt miles away, while debris was scattered, according to media reports.
After initially predicting 18 missing people were dead, Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said, "We were able to determine the locations and confirm that the other two individuals were not at the scene" at the time of the incident.
