16 Killed, 18 Injured in Siberia, Urals Wildfires

The Acting Minister of Emergency Situations, Alexander Chupriyan, said that the wildfires in Siberia and the Urals have so far killed 16 people and wounded 18 others.

"34 people were injured during the aforementioned fires, 16 people died, including one child, and 16 were taken to hospitals, including 6 firefighters," Chupriyan added, during an online meeting on firefighting on May 10.

Chupriyan added that the authorities are making every effort to help those affected by these wildfires, and they are assisted in recovering lost documents and determining the amount of material damage to receive compensation.

According to the available information, the fires destroyed about 1,300 buildings, including about 730 residential buildings.

The Ministry of Emergency Situation mentioned that a total of about 4,000 forest fires have occurred in Russia since the beginning of the year.
