At least 15 people have been injured after South Korean KF-16 fighter jets accidentally dropped bombs over the city of Pocheon, northeast of Seoul, during a training exercise, according to Yonhap news agency.

The incident occurred near a firing range close to the North Korean border, where joint U.S.-South Korean military drills were taking place.

The maneuvers involved around 160 combat vehicles and aircraft, including tanks, fighter jets, and helicopters. Initial reports suggested that eight MK-82 bombs were released, later confirming that two KF-16 jets dropped four bombs each.

Seven buildings, including a church, sustained damage. Among the injured are two foreign nationals and two servicemen, with ten individuals hospitalized, two in critical condition.

Bomb disposal teams have been deployed to clear unexploded ordnance, prompting local authorities to evacuate residents as a precaution.

The South Korean Air Force has expressed regret over the civilian casualties and property damage, pledging to provide compensation.
