At least 12 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured on Wednesday in relentless Israeli air and artillery strikes across various areas of the Gaza Strip, as the humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory continues to worsen amid severe food shortages.
One of the deadliest air raids targeted a family home belonging to the Rayan family in Beit Lahia, in the northern part of the Strip. The strike killed five individuals and wounded more than ten others. In another incident, Israeli aircraft bombed a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in Al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza City, resulting in multiple injuries.
In the eastern Gaza neighborhood of Shujaiya, two people were killed in a separate airstrike. Meanwhile, Israeli artillery continued heavy shelling in the eastern parts of Khan Younis, hitting areas including Abasan, Al-Qarara, Bani Suheila, Qizan al-Najjar, Qizan Abu Rishwan, and Jorat al-Lout. Among the casualties was a young girl, killed when artillery shells struck tents housing displaced civilians.
Naval forces also took part in the assault, firing shells along Gaza’s coastal strip, further intensifying the bombardment.
Alongside the military offensive, Israel continues to enforce a blockade on Gaza, maintaining a complete closure of border crossings since March 2. The shutdown has blocked the entry of humanitarian aid and essential food supplies, pushing the enclave's population deeper into starvation.
Residents across Gaza are now surviving on a single meal a day, often limited to canned goods and basic legumes. Many charity-run community kitchens have ceased operations due to the lack of essential ingredients, exacerbating what aid groups describe as a catastrophic humanitarian situation.
