1056 Participants to Take Part in 4th Farouk Hosny Foundation Arts Awards

On Sunday, the Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts announced the total number of participating works in the fourth edition of the 2023 Art Awards.

1056 from all over Egypt with 1850 artworks are set to compete in the various five branches of the awards: painting, sculpture, art critique, architecture, and photography. 

The number of participants jumped by 41%, compared to the previous round, according to the statement released by Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts.

Painting Awards

Painting awards will see the participation of 546 with 1092 artworks, with an increase of 31% compared to the previous edition.

The jury of the painting award included Dr. Aleya Abdel Hadi, the former dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts, University of Petra, artist Dr. Hussein Al Shaboury, artist Mohamed Abla, artist Samir Fouad, and Dr. Ahmed Ragab Saqr, the former Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts, Minya University.

The jury of the painting award included Dr. Aleya Abdel Hadi, the former dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts, University of Petra, artist Dr. Hussein Al Shaboury, artist Mohamed Abla, artist Samir Fouad, and Dr. Ahmed Ragab Sakr, the former Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts, Minya University.

The total value of the prize is EGP 100,000; EGP 50.000 for the first place, EGP 30.000 for the second one, and EGP 20.000 for the third.

Moreover, a number of honorary certificates will be granted for unique projects.

Architecture Awards

72 participants with 32 projects will compete at the 2023 Art Awards with an increase of 11%, compared to the previous round.

The total value of the prize is EGP 100,000; EGP 50.000 for the first place, EGP 30.000 for the second one, and EGP 20.000 for the third.

The jury of the Architecture awards included: Dr. Souhair Zaki Hawass, Professor of Architecture and Urban Design, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, and Dr. Hesham Seoudy, Professor of Architecture & Urban Planning & Design, Former Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts- Alexandria University and President of Alexandria Engineers Syndicate.

In addition, Mohamed Abo Seeda; Architect and Head of the National Authority for Urban Harmony, Hamdi El Stouhy; Public Building Design Consultant – Expert at the International Council on Monuments and Heritage ICOMOS, and Hatem Al Saeed; Architect and Recipient of the State Prize for Creativity in Architecture were named as jury members.

Sculpture Awards

This competition will witness the presence of 154 artists with 191 artworks. The number of participants jumped 102%, compared to the previous round.

The total value of the prize is EGP 100,000; EGP 50.000 for the first place, EGP 30.000 for the second one, and EGP 20.000 for the third.

The members of the Sculpture Awards were: Dr. Mohamed Al-Alawi, Former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts for Graduate Studies and Research, Helwan University; and a full-time Professor, Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University.

It also included: Nagy Farid; Fine Artist and Sculptor, Dr. Essam Darwish; Professor at the Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University, Dr. Marwa Youssef, Professor and Former Head of the Sculpture Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, and Ehab El Labban, Sculptor, and Director of the Arts Complex, Ministry of Culture.

Art Critique Awards

21 participants with 21 studies were enlisted to participate in this competition, with a 23% increase compared to the previous round.

The total value of the prize is EGP 60,000; EGP 30.000 for the first place, EGP 20.000 for the second one, and EGP 10.000 for the third.

The jury members are: Dr. Saeed Tawfik, Professor of Aesthetics and Contemporary Philosophy, Faculty of Arts – Cairo University, Head of the Philosophy Department Council, Faculty of Arts – Cairo University, and Former Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Culture.

It also included: Dr. Hany Abo El Hassan, Professor, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, and Head of Cultural Development Fund Sector, Ministry of Culture, Dr. Amal Nasr, Professor and Head of Painting Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University, Dr. Tarek Abdel-Aziz; Art Critic and Writer – Akhbar Al Youm, and Fatma Aly, Writer and Art Critic

Photography Awards

263 competitors with 514 artworks will compete in the upcoming competition with a 52% increase, compared to the previous edition.

The total value of the prize is EGP 100,000; EGP 50.000 for the first place, EGP 30.000 for the second one, and EGP 20.000 for the third.

The members of the jury are: Onsi Abou Seif, Production Designer, Dr. Ashraf Reda, Professor of Fine Arts and Executive Director of the Arts and Culture Complex, Artist Ayman Lotfy, HonFICS – SPSA – FMIPP, Artist Emad Abdel Hadi, Photographer, and Artist Aiman Nassar; Creative Commercial Photographer.

The Board of Trustees and Artist Farouk Hosny thank the judging committees for their effective participation and notable efforts in order to achieve the objectives that the Foundation strives to achieve, wishing all participants all success and excellence.
