Tokyo, the capital of Japan, and its surrounding areas experienced heavy snowfall on Monday, leading to transportation disruptions and calls for citizens to avoid unnecessary travel.

The Japanese news agency Kyodo reported that All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines canceled over 100 flights, most of which were departing from or arriving at Tokyo's Haneda Airport in the afternoon, affecting more than 11,000 passengers.

The Japan Meteorological Agency anticipated that central Tokyo might also witness snow accumulation due to the ongoing snowfall expected to continue until Tuesday morning.

This phenomenon is not limited to mountainous areas in the Kanto-Koshin region.

The snowfall is expected to reach its peak later in the day, and individuals are anticipated to encounter snowy and icy roads the following day due to a drop in morning temperatures.

The heavy snowfall led to a standstill in traffic in and around Tokyo, with citizens urged to refrain from unnecessary travel.

Airlines like All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines had to cancel a significant number of flights, affecting thousands of travelers.

The transportation disruptions have caused inconveniences for both residents and tourists.
