10 Timeless Ancient Egyptian Inventions

There is no doubt that the Ancient Egyptian civilization impacted humanity. But, it is still impacting until now through their timeless inventions which everyone uses without noticing that they are inherited from our ancestors.

 

The Alphabet

The Alphabet used for writing is the earliest alphabet in the world. Egyptians composed this alphabet by using the sounds they used to hear in their environment and each voice is depicted in a certain painting or shape to express it.

Papyrus

It is believed that the earliest nation knows the paper is the Chinese but in fact, Egyptians managed in producing high-quality papers for writing from Papyrus.

Papyrus is still used till now for producing paper as a sort of gifts and souvenirs. Papyrus had various usages in ancient Egypt for example it is used as pads, mats, and sandals.

Ink

Black ink, the colored ones, are invented by the Egyptians to help them in recording their tales and daily lives by using vegetable gum, soot, and bee wax. Those kinds of inks are still shining on the monuments they left behind.

 The year in ancient Egypt is pided into 3 main seasons and they are related to agriculture and the Nile's flood. In addition, they also pided the day into periods and they were the earliest people who follow a solar calendar that consists of 12 months.

The Egyptians are the first people to produce "eyeliner" or "kohl" products for decorating their eyes. It is used for men and women in ancient Egypt.

Toothpaste and Breath Mints

Toothpaste and breath mints date back to the Egyptians, as they cared about having a healthy mouth and good smell breaths. They used cinnamon, honey, and myrrh to create breath mints.

Bowling Games

In the 19th century in Fayoum 90 kilometers south of Cairo, archaeologists found huge stones and pines which lead them to believe that 5,000 years ago, ancient Egyptians played Bowling using these stones to target the pins.

Door Locks

Door locks were also spotted in Egypt around 4,000 BC. They were about 0.6 meters long, so they were actually really big. These pin tumbler locks were made out of wood. It is believed that they are more secure than the door locks produced by the Romans.

Hair Shaving and Using Wigs

Due to the high temperature in ancient Egypt especially nearby deserts, they believed that cutting and shaving their hairs regularly. So, they managed to invent certain tools that help them in that mission.

Surgical Tools

The Egyptians were the earliest people who master medicine and the sciences related to it. So, they managed to produce the tools that helped them. The mummies of the ancient Egyptians reflected a lot about their talents in medicine for example discovering the first artificial foot.
