Ten people were killed and five people were missing as a passenger ship overturned in southwest China’s Guizhou Province, authorities announced on Sunday.
The accident happened at 4:50 p.m. on Saturday in the Zangke River in Zangke Township, Liupanshui City. As of 8:10 a.m., 39 people were rescued from the river.
About eight people have died since then, and the remaining 31 are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The ship was designed to carry up to 40 people. Authorities are still checking the exact number of passengers on board at the time of the accident.
Meantime, a rescue operation and an investigation into the cause of the accident are underway.
