At least ten people have died and eighteen others were injured after a fire broke out on board an oil tanker in Indonesia’s Riau province, according to the state-run Antara news agency.
The fire erupted on the MT Federal II at around 4 a.m. local time on Wednesday while the vessel was docked at a ship repair yard in Batam city, local police chief Zainal Arifin said.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze. Police confirmed that the tanker was not carrying any oil cargo at the time of the incident.
Ten fatalities have been confirmed, while eighteen individuals suffered serious injuries and are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
