An explosion in Tel Aviv last night, believed to be the result of an aerial attack, has left one person dead and two others injured, according to Zaki Heller, spokesperson for Israel's Magen David Adom emergency service.
This incident comes as the conflict in Gaza enters its 287th day.
Initially, Israeli police reported seven people with minor injuries, but Heller clarified that most of these individuals were in shock rather than physically injured.
Police spokesperson Dean Elsdon stated that a body with shrapnel wounds was discovered in a building affected by the explosion, located at the corner of Ben Yehuda Street and Shalom Aleichem Street, not far from an annex of the US Embassy in Israel.
The explosion occurred around 3:15 a.m. local time (00:15 GMT), according to emergency services.
Peretz Amar, the Tel Aviv police chief, said it was likely an aerial explosion and expressed relief that the situation was not worse, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
A resident in central Tel Aviv told Agence France-Presse that he was awakened by a loud explosion, saying, "Everything shook."
The Israeli military confirmed that no sirens were activated during the incident and announced that a thorough investigation is underway.
Additionally, the statement mentioned an increase in air patrols to secure Israeli airspace.
