According to The News Hawks, Zimbabwe is preparing to deploy soldiers to combat Islamic extremists spread in Capo Delgado, Mozambique.

The New Hawks quoted a high-ranking military source saying Zimbabwe Defence House officials are meeting regularly to analyse the risks of placing boots on the ground in Mozambique.

The official said, "I understand the SADC countries situation, as they are reluctant to send any troops because they already have a few. Yet, the intervention is a must due to Mozambique's importance for our economy."

He continued that "if things continue to worsen, we will send troops there to avoid further hassles."

Mozambique has significant importance to Zimbabwe, because of the Mutare-Beira trade corridor which provides Harare with the shortest route to the sea.

It is worthy to mention that, it is not the first time for Zimbabwe to aid Mozambique Militarily as it helped in ending Mozambique’s 16-year civil war in 1992.

The Islamic insurgency forced the Mozambican President Felipe Nyusi to resort to Harare, asking for military assistance.

The Mozambican military currently relies on mercenaries under the command of former Zimbabwean army colonel Lionel Dyck’s South African-based private security company, Dyck Advisory Group.

Reports revealed that up to 2,000 people have been killed and about 430,000 have been left homeless due to Muslim provinces' conflicts 2017.

The militants, from the Al Sunnah wa Jama’ah, are linked to the ISIS group which is fighting to establish a foothold in southern Africa.
