Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the death of Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky “a terrible tragedy,” adding the pain was "unspeakable."
Zelenskyy ordered the Ukrainian Security Services “to find out all the circumstances.”
Earlier on Wednesday, a helicopter crash near a kindergarten in the Kyiv region killed at least 16 people, including the leadership team.
Besides Monastyrsky, First Deputy Minister Yevheniy Yenin and State Secretary Yuriy Lubkovychis were confirmed dead.
In a written statement, the president affirmed that the leadership team of the interior ministry officials were “true patriots of Ukraine. May they rest in peace! May all those whose lives were taken this black morning rest in peace!”
Moreover, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed sadness over the tragic death of the Ukrainian minister.
“Our thoughts are with all the victims, children, and their families, of this terrible event that happened near a kindergarten. France expresses its condolences to its Ukrainian friends,” Macron wrote on Twitter.
