Zelensky's Presidential Term Expires

On Monday, Volodymyr Zelensky’s term as the President of Ukraine has expired, however, he will stay in office due to the ongoing war against Russia.

The ongoing battles between Russia, and Ukraine will delay any sort of elections in Ukraine, including presidential and parliamentary elections. 

However, various legal, law experts questioned the legality of Zelensky's powers under the martial law.

In the same context, Ukrainian officials are concerned that Russia may use the expiration of his presidential term in the war against Ukraine to undermine the country’s government and the legitimacy of Zelensky’s rule.

In the same context, Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that Zelensky is a "legitimate military target" for Russia. 

Speaking to TASS, Medvedev described Zelensky as a ‘war criminal’ who should be brought to justice. 

Medvedev’s statements came as Zelensky’s term as President of Ukraine expired.
