Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky  invited, on Sunday, Italian political leaders and public figures to visit his country and see the situation in his country "with their own eyes."

This came during a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni in Rome, according to the Ukrainian news agency "Ukrinform".

The Ukrainian President thanked Meloni for her recent visit to Kiev, stressing that it was a "very important signal."

Earlier in the day, Zelensky called on Pope Francis to support Kyiv’s formula for peace—based on returning Ukraine’s territory—in a pointed message to the pontiff, who has refused to explicitly condemn Russia’s invasion.

Moreover, Ukrainian president received from Italian officials pledges of both open-ended military and financial support as well as stronger backing for Ukraine’s cherished aim to join the European Union.
