Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday that he will not attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, citing a "critical situation" within Ukraine’s energy sector following recent large-scale Russian attacks.
The President stated that his immediate focus is on stabilizing the national power grid and ensuring electricity supplies for the population. Zelensky confirmed he has held emergency consultations with the country’s energy coordination team to address the damage.
"I Choose Ukraine Over Any Global Forum" In remarks reported by the Kyiv Independent, Zelensky underscored the gravity of the domestic situation. "It is a top priority right now. In this situation, I will certainly choose Ukraine over any global forum," he declared.
The decision marks a shift in the President’s international schedule as he grapples with what he described as a "delicate challenge" at home. Zelensky noted that while international diplomatic engagement remains vital, the immediate survival of the country’s infrastructure must take precedence.
Finalizing Peace and Security Documents Despite his absence from the Swiss summit, the President emphasized that work on Ukraine’s future remains intensive. He revealed that his administration is in the "final stages" of drafting two critical documents: a national prosperity plan and a comprehensive security guarantees agreement.
"Ending this war is very important," Zelensky said, noting that the draft documents are "vital" for the country's sovereignty. However, with everything "liable to change at any moment," the President’s presence in Kyiv is deemed essential to manage both the military defense and the civilian energy crisis.
