Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, who is celebrating his birthday today, explained that the 1st gift given to him was from his mother- a "pyjama", at a time children were walking with new pyjamas as a suit.
Hawass noted that there are many people around the world congratulating him on his birthday, as he allocated a special e-mail to receive mails from any person in the world.
Noteworthy, Dr.Hawass was born in the Al-Ubaydia village near Damietta in Egypt , 1947, and he had dreamt to become a lawyer; he obtained a bachelor’s arts degree in Greek and Roman antiquities from the Alexandria University in 1967.
Also, he obtained a Fulbright Fellowship from Pennsylvania University, in Philadelphia to study Egyptology.
He obtained a master’s degree in arts in Egyptology and the Syrian-Palestinian antiquities in 1983; he got a PhD in Egyptology in 1987. He was appointed as chief inspector of the Giza Plateau, but he left the position in 1993.
He was reinstated to the Chief Inspector position in 1994; in 1998, Hawass, was appointed Giza Plateau director, and in 2002, he was appointed Secretary-General of the Antiquities Supreme Council .
During his work in the pyramids, he discovered the workers tombs, the pyramid builders in Giza and the Golden Mummies Valley in the marine oases and the oases ruler cemetery.
He was later appointed as the 1st minister of state for antiquities affairs.
