Xiaomi started blocking the installation of Google Mobile Services (GMS) from some of its smartphones that operate with the China ROM firmware in China, according to Tech News, on Tuesday.

Also, the firm did not disclose the list of models affected by this policy change, however, Redmi K30 Ultra and Redmi 10X 5G users have confirmed that they are no longer able to install Google apps. But Xiaomi and Redmi smartphone users were still able to install or sideload the massively popular apps from the US company, including the bundled GMS apps, on to their device of choice.

However, it seems  the firm has implemented more restrictive measures on this practice, with a company rep claiming on the Chinese-language forum that the change is down to “compliance reasons”.

Later, the US government included 9 Chinese companies on the blacklist for having ties to the Chinese military. Xiaomi is one of these nine companies. According to the ban instructions, US investors must sell their shares in “blacklisted” companies.

The U.S. Commerce Department reported that the action against Xiaomi “stems from China’s military-civil fusion (MCF) doctrine and evidence of activities between the firm and entities of concern in the Chinese military industrial complex.
